Heraldry of the World Civic heraldry of Germany - Deutsche Wappen (Gemeindewappen/Kreiswappen) |
MELLRICHSTADT (MET)
State : Bayern
Incorporated into : 1973 Rhön-Grabfeld
Origin/meaning
The arms were granted in 1967.
The chief shows the arms of the diocese and State of Würzburg, as the largest part of the district historically belonged to Würzburg and Henneberg. The arms of the county of Henneberg are shown in the lower left part of the arms. The lower right half shows the chequered bend of the Cistercian Order, and symbolises the influential Wechterswinkel Convent.
