Origin/meaning

The oldest seal of the city dates from the 14th century and already shows the griffin of Pommerania. On the first seal the griffin seems to hold a leaf (trefoil) in its front paws. On later seals this leaf is removed and the arms haven't changed since. The use of the arms continued after the second world war, when the city became Polish.
