The arms were officially granted on January 20, 1975.
The maple (Ahorn) leaf is a canting element. The base shows the local castle in the colours of the Von Erffa family, who own the castle since 1843. Green and silver are also the colours of the former County Sachsen-Coburg to which the area belonged.
