Origin/meaning

The arms were registered on May 3, 3018.

The shell is the attribute of St. Jacob, patron of the local church, allegedly connected to the oldest settlement in the municipality. The blue symbolizes the river Brtnice and Kněžnický fish pond on the territory of the municipality. The town also has a series of former fish ponds, defunct today, also represented by the blue colour. The linden leaf references the linden lined road through the town. In the alternate designs where four are present, it also represents the four former settlements which form today’s Kněžice – Brodce, Rychlov, Víska and Kněžice. Finally, the three black lines on silver come from the coat of arms of the Hrutovici family, of which the first recorded owner of the town, Dětřich of Kněžice, was a member.

The strategic development plan of Kněžnice from 2012 already mentioned the lack of a flag and coat of arms. The original request to design municipal symbols was raised by the citizens with the municipal council. The arms and flag were designed by Jan Severa in 2016. The town was unable to come up with their own ideas regarding the symbols so a brainstorming session with the heraldist was held. Ten options were created of which the municipal council chose three (I, V and VIII) for a public vote. The vote happened on the 21st April 2017 and citizens were asked to throw their ballot into a box corresponding to their favorite design. Of the 66 votes cast (14% of the municipality's population), the victorious design VIII received 48 votes.

Alternate designs

Blazon of design I: Na středu modro stříbrného děleného štítu zlatá lastura. V hlavě štítu čtvero zlatých lipových listů vedle sebe, ve stříbrném poli tři černé šikmé pruhy.

Blazon of design V: Na modrém štítu stříbrná lastura provázená čtyřmi zlatými lipovými listy v půlkruhu při okraji štítu. V stříbrné hlavě štítu tři černé šikmé pruhy.
