Heraldry of the World Civic heraldry of Germany - Deutsche Wappen (Gemeindewappen/Kreiswappen) |
ALME
State : Nordrhein-Westfalen
District (Kreis) : Hochsauerlandkreis (until 1974 Brilon)
Additions : 1928 Niederalme, Oberalme
Amt : Amt Thülen
Incorporated into : 1975 Brilon
Origin/meaning
The arms were granted on January 22, 1955.
The chevron in the arms is taken from the arms of the Lords of Meschede, who had their estate in the municipality from 1428-1765. The goose is the symbol of St. Liudgerus, the local patron saint.
The base symbolises the Alme river, as the source of the river is in the municipality.
