Origin/meaning

The arms were according to the city in 1835 granted by Leopold Wilhelm Archduke of Austria and Prince-Bishop of Passau in 1637, but there is no historical proof for this. The oldest seal dates form the late 17th century and already shows these arms, so it may be likely that the arms were granted around 1637. The arms are canting, showing a church (Kirche) and a tree (for Wald, forest).
