Origin/meaning
The city historically was a possession of the Bishops of Meissen. The city was burned down in 1429 and subsequently restored by the bishops. The seal of the city from the late 15th century thus shows a bishop and a city gate. All later seals and images have used the same composition, but the size, shape and colours have changed.
