Origin/meaning

The arms were officially adopted on ??

The city was founded in 1284 and got city rights in 1292. The arms refer to 1736-37 when the town was flooded and all that was still visible was the tower of the city hall in the town square and two tops of evergreens. When the water retreated people found salmon in the tower and the streets of the town.

The previous arms (see below) show basically the same composition, but in a different design.
