Dutch | * (1980) In lazuur een zwaan van zilver op een rijzende grasgrond. |
French | * (1846) D'azur au cygne d'argent posé sur un tertre de sinople. |
English | blazon wanted |
Origin/meaning
The arms were officially granted on July 23 1846 and again on December 11, 1980.
The meaning of the swan in the arms is not known. The swan appeared for the first time on the local seal from the late 17th century. The estate of Heist at the time was a possession of the Dukes of Ursel, but their arms did not contain a swan. The colours, which are against the main heraldic rule of tincture (two colours may not border each order), were granted in 1846, but their origin is not known.
