Template:Latvia PĻAVIŅAS TOWN
Region : Vidzeme
Municipality : Pļaviņas
Official blazon
Dalīts ar egļu skuju griezumu: sudrabs un zaļš. Augšējā laukā divas, apakšējā laukā viena liepu lapa - no viena uz otru.
Origin/meaning
The arms were granted in 1936.
Pļaviņas developed from two neighboring towns: Pļaviņas and Gostini, situated on confluence of the Aivieksta and Daugava rivers.
Pļaviņas started in 18th century as a horse post station and tavern.
Later both towns developed simultaneously, but Pļaviņas became more industrial and larger. Pļaviņas got city rights in 1927.
The arms show the confluence of the Aivieksta (smaller) and Daugava rivers. The tower symbolizes the city rights.
