Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on February 1, 1947.

The arms show the bars of the County Loon and three fish, taken from the arms of the counts of Chiny, as in the 13th century Arnold van Loon became Count of Chiny. Opoeteren was historically part of the county Loon. The supporter is the local patron saint, St. Denijs (Dionysius).
