Official blazon

  • (1971) In goud een keper (=schuinkruis !) van keel. het schild overtopt door een omgekeerde schelp van goud.
  • (1985) Gedeeld 1. in goud een schuinkruis van keel 2. in keel een schildhoofd van zilver beladen met drie mereltjes van het veld.

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on December 17, 1971 and renewed on June 3, 1985.

The arms are a combination of the previous arms of Knesselare and the arms of Ursel.

The arms are based on the seal from 1694 from the Land van de Woestine, a large to which the village belonged and which forms a large part of the later municipality. The saltire is taken from the arms of the Praet family, who owne dthe estae until 1592.

The scallop, which appeared on the seal, is also taken from the crest of the family arms.
