RUMES
Province : Hainaut
Additions : 1977 La Glanerie, Taintignies
Official blazon
Origin/meaning
The old arms were granted on October 21, 1820, the new arms on March 9, 1987.
The meaning or origin of the arms is not known. The local council applied for the arms in the early 19th century, but gave no explanation. The arms of the medieval Lords of Rumes did not show either a fleur-de-lis or an eagle, but a silver shield with a black bar.
In 1987 the arms were redesigned and showed the bar of the Lords of Rumes, but with the eagle and fleur-de-lis form the old arms.
