Heraldry of the World Civic heraldry of Germany - Deutsche Wappen (Gemeindewappen/Kreiswappen) |
PEWSUM
State : Niedersachsen
District (Kreis) : Aurich (until 1976 Norden)
Incorporated into : 1972 Krummhörn
Origin/meaning
The arms are a combination of lion from the arms of the Manninga family (see Lutetsburg), who ruled the town until 1565, and the stars of the arms of the Cirksena family, who were their successors as Counts of East-Frisia.
The arms were granted in 1952. The colours are the colours of the arms of Sweden, as Katharina of Sweden, wife of Count Edzard II of East-Frisia owned the castle in Pewsum after 1565.
