Origin/meaning

The arms are of the House of Leliwa (azure a crescent or surmounted by a six-pointed star of the second). Tarnów was in the possession of the Tarnowski family of the House of Leliwa from the 14th century. Tarnowski took the name from Tarnów, and gave the town its coat of arms.

The arms are identical to those of Tarnobrzeg.
