Origin/meaning

Ober-Rosbach was first mentioned as a city in the 16th century, but received city rights officially in 1663. The oldest known seal also dates from the same time, but the composition likely is older, as in 1605 the same composition was mentioned by Siebmacher. The seal and the arms in Siebmacher show the two towers with the canting rose (Rose) in between. All later images show the same composition, but there are many different variations in colours and shapes known. The green hill in the base appeared in the 19th centrury.
