Origin/meaning
The arms are identical to the arms of the town as used on the seal of the local court from 1620. The arms are based on the arms of the Kronberg family, who named themselves after the village and castle, and who granted the city rights in 1330. The arms show in the base three helmets, derived from the 'vair' in the arms of the family (see the lower half of the arms of the Obertaunuskreis district).
The arms were granted in 1907 with a helmet and as a crest a bunch of feathers. These attributes are still sometimes used, see below.
