The badge is based on the arms of Wiite de With (1599-1658), vice-admioral of the Maas Admirality. He distinguished heimself in Battles against the Dunkrik Pirates and the Portuguese, and in the First Anglo-Dutch War. He lost his life in the Battle of the Sound on 8 November 1658. The badge was approved on 30 September 1975.
