Origin/meaning
The arms were officially granted on October 13, 1819 and new arms were granted on May 7, 1985.
The new arms combine elements from the previous arms of Zulte (see below) and Machelen, as well as for Olsene. The deer heads are taken from the old arms of Zulte, the three mulberry leaves are taken from Machelen. For Olsene a swan was added, taken from the arms of the Lanchals family, former Lords of Olsene.
The previous arms are identical to the arms of the Limnander family, Lords of Zulte from 1715-1793. When the local council applied for the arms in the early 19th century they decided to continue the arms of the last Lords of Zulte.
