Origin/meaning

The arms were granted in 1938.

Circa 1890 a group of innkeepers, handicraftsmen and traders bought a large piece of the Ekengrave manor land and founded a new settlement. They called it Azu miests (they mentioned "roe deer borough", but this name can also be read as "borough of goats").
In 1928 city rights were granted. As the citizens realized that their neighbors call them "azi" ("goats"), the city name was changed to Viesite, after the local river.

In 1938 the arms were granted: five acorns. It is canting for the old manor Ekengrave ("oak wood" in Old German).
