Origin/meaning
The arms were officially granted on June 3, 1567 by Johann Jakob Kuen, Archbishop of Salzburg.
The red and white colours are derived from the arms of the diocese of Salzburg, to which the town belonged for many centuries. The meaning or origin of the snake is not known.
