Origin/meaning

The arms were granted in 1913.

The lion in the upper half is the lion of Hessen, the cross is the symbol of the Lorsch Abbey and the wheel is the symbol of the State of Mainz. Heppenheim was a possession of the Lorsch Abbey until 1232, when it became a possession of the Archbishops of Mainz. Since 1803 the city belongs to Hessen.
