FÖHRSTE
State : Niedersachsen
District (Kreis) : Hildesheim (until 1974 Alfeld)
Incorporated into : 1974 Alfeld
German | blazon wanted |
English | blazon wanted |
Origin/meaning
The arms were granted on July 6, 1949.
The arms keep the sword from the previous arms (see below), but now symbols for industry (cogwheels) and agriculture (wheatear) are added.
The previous were granted on October 18, 1938.
The arms are based on the legend of two free farmers who were mentioned in the 8th century. This means that Föhrste was the oldest village in the Kreis Alfeld. They had to defend their freedom with swords, which is symbolised in the arms.
Literature: Barner, W. : Wappen und Siegel des Kreises Alfeld. Hildesheim, 1940 and 1953.
