  • (1839, nl) In lazuur een Sint-Jan-de-Doper van goud.
  • (1839, fr) D'azur à un St-Jean d'or.

Origin/meaning

The arms were granted in 1818 and confirmed on May 16, 1839.

The arms show St. John, the local patron saint shown as a young man. As no historical colours were known, the arms were granted in the Dutch national colours. These were continued after the Belgium independence in 1830.
