Origin/meaning
The arms were granted on May 24, 1960.
The arms show in the upper half two swords and dates. These refer to the two battles fought on the territory of the municipality.
The first battle was on July 29, 1693 between William III, stadholder of the Netherlands and King of England, and Maximilian-Emmanuel, Prince-Elector of Bavaria against the French army. The French won and nearly 20000 soldiers died.
The second battle was on March 18, 1793 between the French troops and an Austrian-Prussian army. The latter won and the French had to leave the Austrian Netherlands.
The lower half shows the arms of the Bistrate family, last Lords of Neerwinden in the late 18th century.
