Incorporated into : 1977 Darmstadt
Official blazon
Origin/meaning
The town historically belonged to the State of Würzburg from 1403 until the 19th century. The Bishops gave the area in loan o the Counts of Katzenelnbogen. The seals of the town, known since 1625, all showed a bishop on a throne, holding a staff and a book.
In the Hessisches Ortswappenbuch from 1956 the arms below were proposed. These arms simply show the crosier as a symbol of the bishops. In 1962, however, the above arms were granted. These are a combination of the banner, taken from the arms of the State of Würzburg, combined with the lion of Katzenelnbogen.
