State : São Paulo
Origin/meaning
The arms were granted on October 17, 1974.
The red field, the sword and the tower symbolise the battles and violence during the Constitutional War in 1932.
The supporters are two soldiers who, in vain, defended the city against the troops of dictator Vargas. The motto 'In pace fidelis, fidelissima in bello', means 'Faithful in peace, extremely faithful in war'.
