Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on March 31, 1970, based on the oldest seal.

Salzuflen received city rights from the Counts of Sternberg already before 1322. Salt mining has been of great importance already in the 13th century, and the oldest seal already shows the same composition of the present arms, a salt well and the star of the Counts of Sternberg. The composition was placed in a shield in the 16th century. The colours have varied during the years, as can be seen in the image below.

Seal from around 1900

Emergency money of the city with the arms (1921)

The arms by Hupp in the Kaffee Hag albums +/- 1925

The arms on a special cancellation 1988

Literature: Stadler, 1964-1971, 8 volumes.
