Wijtschate
Country : Belgium Province : West-Vlaanderen Incorporated into:
|
Dutch | Van lazuur, beladen met een boom, en ter wederzijde verzeld door een eikel, alles van goud. |
English | blazon wanted |
Origin/meaning
The arms were granted on December 15, 1819.
The meaning or origin of these arms is not known. The local council applied for these arms without any indication of its origin. As no colours were specified the arms were granted in the Dutch national colours. These were not changed after the Belgian independence of 1830.
In the 17th century Gaillard mentioned in his roll of arms for the Estate and Lords of Wijtschate a blue shield scattered with golden fleur-de-lis and a golden chevron. There is, however, no evidence that the council ever used these arms on the local seals.
