Portuguese Escudo de vermelho, um pelourinho de prata rematado por uma esfera armilar de ouro, ladeado por dois montes de sal de prata; ponta ondeada de prata e azul. Coroa mural de prata de três torres. Listel branco com a legenda a negro, em maiúsculas: “ FREGUESIA DE ALCOCHETE “.

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on February 14, 1997.

The arms show river Tagus in base. The village was longtime know for its extraction of salt, hence the two pillars of salt. The pillar is a landmark in the municipality with on top the sphere as a symbol for King Dom Manuel I (who initiated the era of discoveries).
