Origin/meaning
The arms were probably devised in 1662 by the emperor and king of Bohemia Leopold I, when the city rights were granted. The arms show St. George, killing the dragon. St. George is the patron saint of the town. During the centuries the colours of the arms have changed, even though the composition remained the same, see images below. The current colours date from 1993.
