Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on December 23, 1992.

The arms show in the first quarter the two swords of the rank of Fieldmarshall of the Holy Roman Empire. The counts of Saxony were appointed Fieldmarshalls and added the swords in their arms. The second quarter shows the old arms of Saxony. Both fields symbolise the fact that the county lies in the heart of Saxony.

The third quarter shows the arms of the Lords of Torgau and represents the former county Torgau, The fourth quarter shows the arms of the medieval counts of Brehna, who owned part of the area before it became part of Saxony. The escutcheon symbolises the rich nature in the area, which include a reservation for beavers.
