Origin/meaning
The arms were granted in 1969.
The arms show in the chief the sword as a symbol for St. Martin, the patron saint of both Marktoberdorf and Obergünzburg. The lower part combines the arms of the State of Augsburg (right) with the red and blue shield of the Abbey of Kempten (left). Both the bishops of Augsburg as the Prince-Abbots of Kempten owned large parts of the district.
Literature: Stadler, 1964-1971, 8 volumes.
