SERRA AZUL

State : São Paulo

Arms of Serra Azul

Official blazon

Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on February 20, 1976.

The flames evoke the Holy Spirit, patron of the city, the base is canting: Serra Azul = Blue Ridge, the name of the city which came from the Blue Mountains, rising near the city; the wavy bar represents the Pardo river, which flows near the city and the bezants allude to the legend of a hidden treasure and the nickname of the city: City of the Treasure.

The supporters show that sugar cane and coffee are important agricultural products of the region.

The shield is surmounted by a mural crown appropriate to a city and a scroll below the shield bears the name of the city between the year when the settlement became a "vila", receiving the first administrative officials (1885) and the year when it received city rights (1927).
