Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on November 9, 1981.

The blue lion is the symbol of the Counts of Veldenz, who ruled the area in medieval times. The lower half of the arms is canting; the name is derived from Kaltenbach, or cold brook, which is symbolised by the wavy bend (brook) and a snow crystal (cold).
