County: Bytów

Arms (crest) of Bytów
Official blazon
Polish blazon wanted
English blazon wanted

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially adopted on May 24, 1994 and again on April 25, 2012.

Bytow, then Bütow, became a possession of the Teutonic Order in 1329 and the oldest seal dates from the same year. It shows already a city with the arms of the Order above the main gate. This composition appears also on all later seals and arms of the city. On one seal the arms are covered by a helmet, but on later seals the helmet is removed.

After the second world war the city used for a long time the arms without the small shield of the Teutonic Order, but otherwise the arms have not changed since the 14th century.
