Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on March 2, 1876 and confirmed on July 19, 1978.

The arms are based on the seal from the local council from 1730. The first part shows the local patron saint, St. Lawrence and a canting beech (Bocholt is dereived from Beech-forest). The middle pale shows the arms of Jeanne Thérèse , Countess Lannoy, and lady of Bocholt in 1730. The three leopard heads are the arms of the medieval Lords of Bocholt.
