Official blazon

Escudo de vermelho, águia de prata com cabeça nimbada de ouro; em campanha, pano de muralha " Vauban", de ouro, lavrado de negro, com guaritas nas duas extremidades. Coroa mural de prata de três torres. Listel branco, com a legenda em maiúsculas a negro : “ S. JOÃO - LISBOA “.

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on January 28, 2003.

The eagle is the symbol of St. John the Evangelist, the local parish saint.

The base shows a wall of the former fortress of Santa Apolónia built between 1652/1668 in the parish.
