Origin/meaning
The arms show the Agnus Dei, the symbol of the patron saint of the city. The lamb already appears on the first seal of the city, which dates from the early 15th century. The arms have not changed ever since. The colours are taken from the arms of the Bishops of Ermeland, as the city was founded by one of these bishops.
