BOM JESUS DOS PERDÕES

State: São Paulo

Arms (crest) of Bom Jesus dos Perdões
Official blazon
Portuguese blazon wanted
English blazon wanted

Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on May 6, 1991.

The cross in the shield is the symbol of Jesus, patron of the city, and the chapel dedicated to him, built in 1705. The base of the shield shows some points, symbolising the mountains in the region. The wavy bar symbolises the Atibaia river. The lozenges, the typical shape of a shield of a woman, symbolise the founder of the city, Bárbara Cardoso.

The shield is supported by two jaguars, symbols of the wildlife at the beginning of the settlement. The dates on the scroll indicate the date of foundation (1705),and the granting of city rights (1959).
