Origin/meaning

The arms are based on the oldest known seal of the city, dating from the 17^th century. The gate and towers symbolise the fact that the village received city rights in the 17^th century. The eagle is the eagle of Brandenburg, as the area was a possession of the Counts of Brandenburg until 1390. The colours are first used in 1891. The above arms were officially granted in 1965.
