Official blazon

Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on September 15, 1819 and again on May 25, 1838 and September 5, 1979.

The arms are based on the oldest known seal of the town, dating from 1358. The seal showed, as did later seals from the 17th and 18th centuries, the arms of Nicolas de Barbençon. The estate and town of Braine was owned by the Barbençon family until 1312 when Colard de Barbençon returned the estate to the Duke of Brabant. The arms of the family were identical to those granted to the municipality in 1838.
