Origin/meaning
The arms were first granted on June 7, 1932 and the new arms were granted on March 1, 1988.
In the new arms the ermine trails were replaced by an eagle, as a symbol for Onze-Lieve-Vrouw-Waver.
The arms show the pales of the Berthout family, who in 1213 acquired most of the area around the village. The family ruled the area for many centuries.
In the old arms five ermine trails were placed in the free quarter, derived from one of the branches of the Berthout family.
