Origin/meaning :
The supporter is St. Andrew (Andreas) with his symbol, the cross. The oldest seal of Norden, dating from 1498, already shows St. Andrew. He was the patron saint of the second church of the city, consecrated in 1288. The spurs (Sporenräder) are derived from the arms of the Idzinga family. This family had much influence in the city, but is not known when the city adopted the spurs.
