Origin/meaning

The arms of the town (German name Gross-Strehlitz) show the eagle of Upper Silezia and a grape vine.

The oldest known seals of the city, the oldest from 1362, until the 16^th century already show the eagle and a branch. The type of branch is not clear, but there are no grapes and the shape of the leaves is different. The vine only appeared on the seals in the 16^th century.

The composition has not changed since, but the colours and the size and shape of the grape tree have varied widely.
