Origin/meaning
The arms show in the upper part an oak tree with two branches, one for each of the two former municipalities. The oak is a very common tree in the area. The base refers to the Bederkesa-Geeste Channel, which used to be important for shipping.

The green shield and the trefoil indicate the agricultural character of the region. The heron was added as a symbol, as the first heron nest in the region was discovered in Kühnstedt in 1894.
