Origin/meaning
The city took the arms of the former city of Fryštát in 1968, and changed the red colour to silver in 1976.

From 1909-1948 the city had different arms, showing symbols of mining and agriculture, under a chief with the symbol of the all-seeing God. These arms were granted on April 3, 1909.
