Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on September 28, 1556 by Prince Ottheinrich of the Pfalz (Palatinate).

The arms combine the arms of the Counts of Leuchtenberg (bar) with the lion of the Pfalz. Pleystein belonged until 1418 to the Counts of Leuchtenberg and became a possession of the Wittelsbach (Counts of the Pfalz) dynasty afterwards. The oldest known seal dates from the 14^th century and shows only the chequered bar of the Counts of Leuchtenberg. Seals with the same composition were used until 1555.
