Origin/meaning
The arms were granted on March 5, 1976.
The unicorn is a symbol of strength and victory, alluding to the efforts of the first settlers to conquer the harsh region and their final victory.
The supporters show that sugar cane and orange are important agricultural products of the region.
The shield is surmounted by a mural crown appropriate to a city and a scroll below the shield bears the name of the city
