Origin/meaning
The arms were granted on November 21, 1974.
The palm is a canting element, macaúba is a variety of palm tree (Acronomia scleroparca). The fleur-de-lis are a symbol of St. Mary, the patron saint of the city.
The shield is flanked by coffee and cotton, the main crops in the region.
